Project:
The Challenge:WeGrow connects home cannabis growers to share techniques, ask questions, and learn from each other. Simple idea. The tricky part was making a video that worked for Silicon Valley investors and everyday growers who had never cultivated anything before. Two very different audiences, one video.
Our Approach:Information on how to grow cannabis is all over the map. A Google search just leads to more Google searches. So we started there, with the overwhelming wall of questions every first-time grower faces, before introducing the app as the answer. The 2D animation style does the heavy lifting throughout. Crinkled paper textures, flat iconography, warm earthy palette, and yes, a groovy caterpillar paying homage to one of the all time great hookah lovers.
The Result:The video launched at Canopy's demo day in Boulder and did its job. WeGrow hit over 20,000 downloads on the iTunes Store and was acquired by VividGro less than a year after launch. Not bad for a cannabis app that needed to charm investors and home growers at the same time.
